Thousands of people fled to abandoned hotels when Georgia lost the province of Abkhazia in 1993. 30 years later, five families still live in the Hotel Metalurg. The hotel has a new owner and the Georgian government has provided apartments for the residents … but having to move again is not something easy for them.

George Varsimashvili, director and producer

After graduating university in Georgia, he went to study film making in Paris 8 university (bachelor’s and master’s degree) and ESRA Paris film school. He shot his graduation feature film “Particulier a Particulier” in 2012, which was released in film theatres in France, Russia and Georgia. In 2019 he was invited by Bela Tarr to direct a short film in Switzerland, which was premiered at Locarno film festival in 2019. In 2020 George became an artist for the light equipment manufacturer Dedolight. In 2022 George Varsimashvili released his first feature documentary called “A Stage”. His second documentary “Hotel Metalurg” was premiered at Sheffield DocFest in the international competition.

Jeanne Nouchi , director

After graduating film faculty at Paris 10 University in Jeanne made her first short film in 2009. Since then, she made several feature documentaries for television. Her feature documentaries Circassiens, En Attendant la Nuit and A l’EST de Nos Mémoires all had festival careers both in France and internationally.
