Wafaa, a young girl who fled the war in Iraq to Germany with her family, dreams of becoming a professional footballer. Football is Wafaa’s true passion and her way of coping with a difficult reality, where she tries to simultaneously loosen the grip of dogma of a closed Yazidi community and preserve her cultural identity.

Ekaterina Pavlova is a documentary filmmaker based in Hamburg. She has studied journalism and international relations as well as graduating from the Un/Filmed School for documentary filmmaking. She recently completed her first independent short documentary movie. An immigrant herself and a keen observer of the Middle East, Ekaterina is driven by her passion for authentic storytelling. Her short film, “The Second Life of Wafaa,” sheds light on the challenges faced by young immigrants.
